Teas for Yoga

Some people are coffee drinkers and others drink tea. Both offer a wide variety of flavors and combinations, each from different continents around the world with their own history. But whether you prefer to start your morning off with a cup of joe or a steaming mug of darjeeling tea, yoga and tea go together like peanut butter and jelly. Here’s a list of teas to drink before and during a yoga session to get the most out of your classes.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile Tea is amazing for reducing inflammation and relaxing muscles and joints. Drinking this tea while practicing yoga, particularly Restorative Yoga poses such as Child’s Pose, Pigeon Pose, and Bridge Pose can help ease your muscles and joints as you move from one pose to the next, and eventually into your bed.

Jasmine Tea

Similar to Chamomile Tea, Jasmine tea is more on the lowkey side, meaning long, slow, stretches that you might practice before bed or on a lazy Sunday. Jasmine, Chamomile, and Skullcap are some teas to drink to wind down after a long day and stretch out those sore limbs after a grueling workout, before tucking into bed.

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint Tea has great benefits, such as improvement in energy, relieves tension in head and migraines, and calms upset stomachs. This tea is great to drink while practicing hot yoga, which requires a good amount of energy to perform as well as staying hydrated. Hot yoga is a form of yoga as exercise performed under hot and humid conditions, resulting in considerable sweating.

Mint Tea

Mint Tea is also a great choice when it comes to hot yoga. The cool and eye-opening tea prepares you for the hot and sweaty session ahead of you!

Green Tea

Green Tea is a great natural energy booster, and when you drink this before or during a workout or yoga session, your energy will be lifted, mood heightened, metabolism improved, and can help to reduce inflammation and provide antioxidants. Green Tea is also a great go to for deep, meditative yoga, or just mediation. Calming your mind and increasing your cognitive skills, you might find yourself falling into a deep meditative state before you know it.

Oolong

Oolong Tea is a perfect tea for before a yoga session. It’ll fill up your energy tank without the need for milk or sugar, although a little wouldn’t help if you preferred. Oolong has been associated with weight loss, and reduces risk of heart diseases. Practicing Asana or Hatha yoga goes well with this tea, using your newfound energy to create the perfect workout.
